Can’t uninstall CRMtool Sync for Outlook?

There are times when you won’t be able to uninstall the CRM Sync Tool for Outlook.  Here’s why:
An uninstall runs the package that was originally used to install it, and the one you used previously only knows about Outlook versions up through Outlook 2013 (Outlook.Application.15).
The uninstall can’t find a ‘supported’ version of Outlook so it quits; the upgrade/new install can’t proceed until the previous version has been removed.

What you can do is temporarily change a registry value so that the uninstall will run, then change it back and run the new install.

Here are the steps:

  1. Launch the registry editor. You should be able to find it by going to Apps and entering regedit in the Search box. You need Admin rights to run that application, so Windows will throw up a UAC prompt when he launches it
  2. Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Outlook.Application\CurVer
  3. Change the (Default) value from Outlook.Application.16 to Outlook.Application.15
  4. Uninstall CRMtool Sync for Outlook the list of installed applications
  5. Change the (Default) value back to Outlook.Application.16
  6. Close the registry editor
  7. Install the current version of CRMtool Sync for Outlook
